The acoustic guitar is easy to pick out of the choice of instruments that a band is playing on-stage. It will be the hollow bodied instrument with a cut out of a circle on it. The hollow body provides a sound completely different from a standard electrical guitar and this is why several top performers have an acoustic guitar in the band. They are usually the chosen instrument when one wants to learn to play because there is no need for the additional purchase of an amplifier.

The neck of the guitar has a fret board. The frets provide a guide to where players would put their fingers to make certain chords. The headstock of the guitar has the string tuners, which when one turns the tuners the string changes sound. The sound is adjusted until the key note for that string is acquired. This is hard to do, especially for beginners, without the use of tuning instrument, which can be purchased from any music store.

The circle cut out on the body of the guitar is called a soundhole and below the soundhole one will find a pick guard. The pick guard, shaped similar to the resemblance of a paisley shape and this is to protect the guitar from the pick hitting the wood.

The strings run from the tuners at the top of the guitar to the saddle, which looks like a miniature block of wood. Set within that wood is a bridge that the strings bridge over. This can allow a height adjustment of the strings to set the strings closer, or further away from the fret board.

The acoustic guitars come in a six-stringed, a twelve-string style and an electric acoustic guitar, which any of the guitars are a great choice for taking acoustic guitar lessons.
